Growing Pains and Belly Aches

Growing Pains and Belly Aches, or, “The Growings Up of a Dogue De Bordeaux…” (By Gunner’s Mom)

Growing pains in Dogue de Bordeaux?  Dogues can be a handful.  Their eating habits are, well, anything that can fit in their mouth is fair game.  For a growing Dogue, that can create other problems…

Feeding a Dogue cheap foods can be a serious issue.  Any giant breed dogs have this problem.  Dogues shouldn’t be allowed to  grow too quickly;  It causes massive stress on the joints.  TRUST me, they will “fill out” later. They’re still considered “puppies” until 24 mos..  The problem is that the bones grow SO quickly that any mineral deficiencies can cause HUGE problems.  Free feeding your large breed pup so that he “isn’t hungry” can cause him to grow too fast.  This can cause skeletal diseases, hip joint arthritis and more.  But the one thing, which is awful, is called PANOSTEITIS.  More commonly known as “growing pains.”  There’s inflammation and joint swelling.

What’s that?  “Oh,PLEASE, growing pains!” you say?  Let me tell you, I thought Gunner was going lame on me.  He limped on front and back legs at the same time.  He was licking his fur off, stressing from the pain.  My heart ached for him.  I immediately changed his diet to a lower calcium diet, added omega oils, glucosamine and chondroitin, among a few others to his diet.  A big help was an item I found on Amazon called “T-Relief.”  It’s an all natural pill that looks like an aspirin, and offers all natural pain relief that’s safe for your dog.  About 8 days later, he was back to his bouncy, rambunctious self.  Scared the heck out of me.

Growth spurt and growing pains...
Growth spurt and growing pains…

But during “puppy puberty” they need to be kept lean.  Dry dog food should not be more than 1.35% calcium on the label.  Canned food at that point isn’t really a good thing, as the fat content is WAY higher than the dry food.  Dry only is best if you can’t give a high quality canned food.  Believe me, your dog will thank you!  Click on the “Health Supplies” link below to find the T-Relief all natural supplements that are FANTASTIC for ANY pains your Dogue may have…
